The Uckfield Singers enjoy entertaining, but at the same time, raising money for local and national causes. They sing everything from Elton John to Rogers & Hammerstein.

Their next major event is to be held at the Uckfield Civic Centre on Saturday, the 22nd of July, at 7:30 p.m. Chairman Sue Daniel tells EJW that they plan to perform Your Song and Can You Feel The Love Tonight.

”We have the official choral music scores,” she says.

”We are also singing songs by John Denver, Queen, Simon & Garfunkel, and others.”

There’s also to be a raffle, with donations going to the Chestnut Tree Children’s Hospice.

Sue says: ”The raffle prizes are donated by our 92 choir members, so it generally will be wine, boxes of toiletries, etc.

”I helped start the community choir 10 years ago, the ethos being that the music be diverse; the rehearsals affordable to all; and you don’t have to read music or audition. But we strive to put on the best concert possible, and have fun singing along the way. Many members forget their problems when they come to a rehearsal so it’s therapy too.  Then we nominate a local, sometimes national, charity to support and we usually raise £3-400 each concert.  The age range is 16 and over, but most of our members range from 25-85.”

Tickets cost £7, and are available from Gale & Woolgar, as of July 1.
